Empowering Youth Through Music
The Youth Musician Commission is a collective of creative young leaders dedicated to connecting youth with music and giving back to their communities through the arts.

Youth Songwriting Contest
Created by the youth council, this competition encourages young musicians to explore the process of writing and recording music. The contest is open to youth ages 13-19 from across Canada.
Students are invited to submit their original music for a chance to win one of the top prizes. All genres are welcome. The contest is designed to celebrate creativity and support the next generation of songwriters and composers.
Each entry will receive feedback from professional artists, offering valuable insights into the songwriting and composition process. There are lyrical and instrumental categories. This year, we have added a brand new category for Film Composition!
Submissions are due by May 3rd, 2026. First place winners will win free studio time at the Deane Cameron Recording Studio at Allied Music Centre to record their original music plus a $100 gift card from Long & McQuade. 2nd place contestants will receive a $50 gift card. IN THEIR OWN WORDS
“When I first joined YMC, I was intimidated—but I quickly fell in love with the people, the projects, and the purpose. Planning events that give back is so rewarding, especially with such a supportive and hardworking team.”
